This is just inside the door of the main entrance on the left.

There is a smokers shelter outside the main entrance. The whole hospital is no-smoking.

Hospital Wards & Access
There are 5 dedicated cubicles for oncology on the Woodcock Ward. There is a large games room with a pool table, large plasma screen and table football!

Possible future News.
This however is subject to change, as there is a plan that Wildgoose Ward may open again with 10 beds and 3 dedicated oncology cubicles.

Telephones
There is a Patientline system for TV, internet and phone. There are machines to get pay-as-you-use type cards on all the levels. In the main entrance it is by the newsagents. You can use credit/debit cards or money to get ÂŁ3.50, ÂŁ5 or ÂŁ10 cards to use. However children can use the TV for free for a limited time and the internet is sorted through the school room, so check first before you get any!

There are 7 public phones in the main entrance and mobiles can be used within reason on the wards.

Parking

You need change and your registration number for the parking pay and display machines!.
For patients attending chemotherapy, radiotherapy and oncology the charge is £1.20 all day. For this you just need to go to the portacabin opposite the main entrance and talk to the car parking attendants. No proof of appointment is required although if it is going to be a long term treatment plan then the nurses will sort out a card for you to take to them and you can pay in advance if you want. They are open from 9am – 4pm Mon – Fri and 3-3.30 on Sat and Sun. If they are not open when you arrive just go and see them when you get a minute. They do NOT clamp. It is ok to park over night and speaking to one of the car parking people he said let them now where you’re parked if you have to stay over night and they will let security know. The nearest car parks are A and B. All have ramped access if you have wheelchairs or buggies.

If collecting a patient you can park for 20 minutes free or use the drop off zone.

Public toilets
There are toliets in the entrance just past the coffee shop. There is also a baby changing facility there.
There are also toliets for visitors by the lifts on level 12 – the childrens wards.

Parent beds
Each cubicle has a bed available for one parent. There is also parent accomodation (but it is just outside the ward door).

There is a parents kitchen just inside the Wild Goose ward and the nurses always look after the carers as well as the patients!

You are quite welcome to order take aways to be delivered and there is a company that deliver lunches that staff use aswell.

There are a variety of vending machines on all floors (ususally by the lifts). They carry chocolate, salads, fruit, sandwiches and drinks.

There is a restaurant called Greenbank restaurant on level 7 which is open from 7.30am til 8pm.
It does breakfasts, hot food for lunch from 12.
There is a deli counter open at 11.30am and a range of vending machines.
It is for staff as well as patients so dressing gowns are quite acceptable!

There is a coffee shop called the Mayflour coffee shop and Take away on level 6 in the main entrance.

There are a number of shops in the hospital main entrance (level 6). There is a newsagents, a present shop run by the League of Friends and The Body Shop. There is also a post box right by the entrance, a passport photo booth by the newsagents and the cashpoint.

Outside of the hospital
There are fast food outlets within 5 minutes walk.

Cash Point
There is a cash machine on level 6 by the shops in the main entrance to the hospital.

Playrooms and Play Leaders
There are play specialists on the ward. The main playroom is on Woodcock ward which is where young paediatric patients go. The play specialist team under Sue Rodgers operate from here and provide support for oncology patients, on the ward, attending out patient clinics at CYPODS (Children and Young Persons Out patients Department) or coming into day surgery on level 6 for theatre procedures such as central line insertions and removals or intrathecal chemotherapy).

Education
There is a large school room with teachers available to help with school work. They liaise with local schools as well as providing home tutoring if the patient needs it and are always willing to talk through the students requirements.

Televisions
Each cubicle has a TV and internet access is possible in the cubicles.(This is connected through the school room staff who will give you a laptop to use).

Taxi
There is a taxi freefone inside the main entrance and usually there are taxis outside as well.

Buses
There are 3 bus stops with shelters outside the main entrance. The furthest from the entrance has buses that go out of town. The other 2 stops cover Plymouth city by different routes.
About 95% of the buses are wheelchair and buggy friendly and they go so often you wont have long to wait if the first one isn’t.

Train
Plymouth station is about 7 miles away.
It is near the town centre and there is a bus that takes you to the hospital. (No:7 about every 20 minutes)
