Visiting restrictions at Royal Devon & Exeter hospital (Wonford)
We are currently experiencing a number of wards affected by the community-wide diarrhoea and vomiting bug called norovirus.
This bug spreads easily from person to person. Part of the infection control measures we have in place is restrictions on visiting to the hospital. This is because people can unwittingly bring the bug into the hospital. To protect our patients and staff, no visiting is allowed on closed wards affected by norovirus unless there are exceptional circumstances and it has been agreed in advance with the ward matron. Examples of exceptions to this visiting restriction may, for example, be that a patient is critically ill or a young child or vulnerable adult in our care needs their parent or carer. The symptoms are unpleasant, particularly for patients already feeling unwell. Thank you for co-operating with our infection control measures.
Our advice is to call the ward first to check whether you will be allowed to visit
Avoid unnecessary visits to the hospital, particularly young children and babies
Do not come into a hospital if you have had symptoms of diarrhoea and/vomiting in the last 48 hours or you have been in close contact with someone with these symptoms.
